Welcome! Shalom!

My name is Heather! I am married to Adam and we have 6 wonderful kids. This is the blog to journal our journey as we "try to Torah". We have been Torah observant now for 1 year. We are getting ready to celebrate our second Passover.
What is Torah observant? Basically we follow the Bible, Old and New Testament. We only celebrate the Feast days told to us in His word. We don't celebrate christmas, easter, or halloween. We celebrate Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of First Fruit,  Shavout, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement,  and Feast of Tabernacles. These are all listed in Leviticus 23.   This has been a bit difficult for our kids ( ages 17-4), mostly our older kids. All they have ever known was the latter. We are trying our best to follow what our Father calls us to do... isn't that what we are here for? To do our best to please Him and show His love to others.
I honestly was not on board when Adam told me all about this "Torah thing". I had been fine for 35 years doing what I was doing and I surely didn't want to change things up on my kids. The more I read my Bible and understood it, it all made sense. The normal holidays we were doing all had paganism tied in some way or another. Why would our Father want us to celebrate them? He wouldn't. So, we stopped. It was hard on the kids and honestly really hard on me, especially christmas. I felt like I was cheating my kids out of memories....especially the younger ones.  Mommy guilt is the WORST!!! We survived though, it wasn't the end of the world. It was nice knowing that we were doing what our Father told us.
Our older kids are still having a hard time adjusting. They are doing things that the rest of the world isn't. We observe the Sabbath , so from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday we spend time together, read/study His word and REST! This took some time to get used to also. Friday morning/afternoon is preparation day. This means dinner for Friday and Saturday is prepared, chores are done and the house is cleaned up. This is all done so that we may rest in Him during the Sabbath time. So, that all our focus can be on His word. I enjoy this time now. My 4 year olds favorite part is blowing the Shofar to start the Sabbath.  Our 6 year old loves saying the Kiddush and Motzei.
This is just a little of our  journey....more to come!

 Shabbat Shalom,
